A Bali Awakening: GCYC’s Retreat to Soulshine Bali

Riddle – how do you combine a totally relaxing week with a life-changing experience? Answer – I have no idea, but that is what we all experienced at last years Bali Retreat at the amazing Soulshine Retreat centre. It was seven days of pure bliss… Daily yoga and meditation classes, delicious gourmet organic vegetarian meals (that we didn’t have to cook!!), divine massages, lazing by the pool, loads of laughter, culture, adventure and heaps more!

Each day we awoke from the luxurious accommodation of Soulshine Bali to the calls to prayer floating over the dark rice fields as the sun rose and illuminated the lush surrounding of Ubud. The local people who cared for us each day were so beautiful – their full hearts and beautiful nature shining through their smiles. We were enchanted by the daily offerings of flowers and incense that created such a feeling of serenity and sacredness in the midst of busy daily life.

Being away from our normal routine meant we were free from our usual cares and responsibilities, giving us time and space to explore our yoga and meditation practice in a way that we don’t always get at home. We embraced that sense of freedom on and off the mat – even jumping on the back of scooters – which was liberating, so much fun, and for many of us, therapeutic!

We had day trips and adventures including a journey to the west coast, where sweaty and tired we arrived to find a spectacular waterfall. We felt immediately revived and refreshed as we jumped in the icy water, laughing with a group of young locals who were also swimming at their favourite waterfall. It was absolutely breathtaking and a wonderful opportunity to experience the beauty of Bali, a culture so close to nature. On the way back, we visited one of Bali’s many stunning temples. We wandered around taking in the art, colour and atmosphere of a temple on the lake – so beautiful!

On our last night, we were fortunate enough to be invited to a local man’s home. Agung took us in like family, told us incredible cultural stories and his wife cooked us an incredible authentic Balinese feast. His beautiful daughters also gave us a stunning dance performance. It was a very special evening and we all agreed it was a highlight of the trip!

To be able to share this experience with such a wonderful group of people was extraordinary and we all made deep heart connections over the course of the week. It was a welcoming space where all levels of yoga were welcome, and all who attended were able to gain the private attention they needed to deepen their practice.

A week in Soulshine Bali really did make our souls shine! We would love for you to join us in October this year and experience the joy and magic of Bali and yoga.
